The Poetry of Marc W. McCord

Heading for a Fall
A Song by Marc W. McCord
(C) September 13, 1969

Did you ever know somebody who lived a sheltered life
Somebody who never experienced the sharp edge of a knife
Somebody who never took a chance on being free
Somebody who never ever opened her eyes to see
A woman who would lecture you on things that you had done
many years before your life with her had yet begun

Did you ever try to talk to one set in her ways
A woman who would nag at you for everything you say
A woman who would listen to what others had revealed
even though they had no personal knowledge in that field
Someone who could make a point of nothing based in fact
and when you disagree with her blame you for lacking tact

(CHORUS)

She is the very best. She is the number one.
She is an expert on everything she's never done.
She's got an opinion. She knows it all.
Don't you argue with her. You're heading for a fall.

Did you ever try to get that girl to free her mind
to read some books do some research to see what she could find
Did you ever reach a point where love was turned to dust
because of her reaction to things that you discussed
Did you know the price you'd pay for making her your friend
and that she'd be your enemy when friendship met its end

(CHORUS)

She is the very best. She is the number one.
She is an expert on everything she's never done.
She's got an opinion. She knows it all.
Don't you argue with her. You're heading for a fall.

This is what I learned once I was deep in love with her
that it was better not to reveal the things that cause a stir
A woman who can hold opinions not knowing what they mean
is just about the meanest woman I have ever seen
No matter what you say or do you know it's never right
And everything you say or do will lead into a fight

(CHORUS)

She is the very best. She is the number one.
She is an expert on everything she's never done.
She's got an opinion. She knows it all.
Don't you argue with her. You're heading for a fall.
She is the very best. She is the number one.
She is an expert on everything she's never done.
She's got an opinion. She knows it all.
Don't you argue with her. You're heading for a fall.
